Clashes at G8 Summit in Scotland
Wednesday, July 6, 2005
Anarchists and other rebels clashed with police Wednesday outside the G8 Summit in Gleneagles and 22 kilometres southwest in the town of Stirling.
In the early morning, anarchists in Stirling blocked roads, attacked police and smashed corporate stores, leaving spray-painted slogans behind.
Blockades of the M80 and M9 motorways, as well as a hotel in Edinburgh slowed down some of the G8 delegates on their trip to the summit.
Outside of the Gleaneagles hotel in Auchterarder, the site of the G8 summit, hundreds of rebels tore down and breached the security fence, battling with riot police.
Some 30 police officers were injured and as many as 400 people were arrested in all.
