Tuesday, June 21: Press Conference and Community Information Event    Map    Caltrain

Fight Bush

There's a war on - a war between the United States government and the vast majority of the world's population. This war has many faces - the struggles over globalization, corporate empire, and the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan - but everywhere the same lines are drawn. Everywhere the US government is acting in the interests of corporations, and everywhere people are being slaughtered, are starving to death, and are watching their lives be torn apart and sold for profit.

Stop the War

This war has to stop. The occupation must end, neoliberalism must be buried, and any attempt to invade Iran must be prevented. The prediction that the US may not have the military or political capacity to wage another war must be fulfilled. Already well over five thousand soldiers have deserted and recruitment is falling far short of the military's goals. It's up to us to ensure that the US government does not maintain a political or social capacity to continue its war on the world's population.

Destroy Empire

What does this mean? This means we need to step up our resistance - and we need to do it now! The US can only continue its devastating economic pursuits if it can rely on our complacency and the safety of the corporations which it serves. If we act together to take back control out our own lives, environments, and relations, present a serious challenge to government power, and inflict serious economic damage upon the corporations responsible for this war, they won't be able to invade Iran or even continue the occupation of Iraq - and they'll be in a lot more trouble than that!

Dismantle Capitalism

It is not enough to oppose one piece of this horrible puzzle - what we win one place will be taken away somewhere else. From war to globalization, occupation, and all other attacks on working and poor people around the world, to their architect, the G8 - it is the system itself which must be destroyed. As hundreds of thousands converge on Scotland to prevent the leaders of the world's 8 wealthiest countries from meeting to plan their next attack, we must mobilize here to resist it. Converge on downtown Palo Alto this June 25th - destroy their nightmare, make your dreams possible!

"Beneath the concrete - a beach.
Resist Empire."

Go home you fascist racist imperialist rapist. We don't need your goon hugging kind around here.
by question
Why a press conference? Is the corporate media going to assist the anarchist struggle? Why don't you have a police conference as well, or is that not needed since journalists are so closely allied with the police?
by Press conference
The reason for a press conference is because the media has been constantly contacting Anarchist Action after the RTS action and since the public announcement of this march. The idea is to at least get a statement out, because they will, and are, manipulating the truth. It serves a purpose because newspapers around the area have been printing articles stating that the police expect anarchists to come to Palo Alto and cause "chaos and disorder", so the press conference will help clear this up. Stop jumping to sarcastic, arrogant conclusions about a group that has been doing great work and organizing important events (such as the West Coast Anti-G8 Convergence). There are hardly any other anarchist groups in the country facilitating, initiating and organizing open actions such as the ones Anarchist Action (both the Palo Alto and San Francisco "chapters") has (March 19th contingent, May Day march, Palo Alto RTS, upcoming Palo Alto march, Anti-G8 convergences, initiating Muni Social Strike, etc.). Keep negative and arrogant comments to yourself, what we all need is solidarity and support.
by about press conference...
Also, before you make stupid comments, try visiting http://www.anarchistaction.org/paloalto/pressconference.html for a little more info on the press conference. I should also add that, if you might have paid attention, it is not only a press conference, but a community information event, so that the average community members can know what is really being planned for the 25th, and to disect the lies spread by the police.

WHY DON'T YOU PEOPLE QUIT TRYING TO SLANDER ME!
by Anti Yuppie
WHy Palo Alto?
by Anti Yuppie
WHy Palo Alto? Is that where you all live?
by Steve
It's either bored, white children in Palo Alto or it's a bunch of jerks who think it's clever to invade an affluent town to throw a temper tantrum that is supposed to be really neat because it's making the rich people mad. Either way, it's a waste of time.
by there goes Steve the coward again...
always coming on indybay to make a quick hit and run comment---never willing to finish a debate/discussion---especially when facts get involved...I still challenge you to finish the needle exchange argument
by Steve
As I have stated numerous times, I have NO need or desire to debate you or have a conversation with you. I make comments when and where I please. I am voicing my opinion. I simply don't CARE whether you like it or not. I don't want to debate it. I have no desire to change your opinion. Again, if you don't like my comments, don't read them. It really is that simple.
by to Steve
"I am voicing my opinion.... I don't want to debate it"
But what is your opinion based on?
When it is based on false or a lack of information??????
Or does that matter to you.
These are suppossed to be discussion forums---not make inflammatory/antagonistic/baseless comments that you can't back up----I was enjoying having the opportunity to provid a little education to you in the needle exchange debate---and when I started talking about evidence based practice---you stopped---It seems like you were glued to your beliefs, even if the face of facts/knowledge to the contrary-----while that is, most certainly, your perogotive---I would hope that as a reasonably intelligent person with some education would be open minded enough to entertain the possibility that you may not always be right...... But if you'd prefer to avoid real discussion and continue with your status quo---that's your choice----but then I have to ask...what's the motivation? Why come on a site where you clearly, in general, do not agree with most of the political stances and simply make antagonistic comments?
by soc
Come get some revolutionary ice cream after your revolutionary march.
by atticus finch
Look just because you get some "psychologist" to say I have a personality disorder doesn't make it true! When Hemiphities returns to Earth you shall all be made to face the Yania you have built up in your life. I and the urban guerrilla liberation front will make you take the fascist medication that the imperialist Bush regime is forcing down my throat.

The medication is so that Bush can steal my brain. He needs it to make his oil robots have the AI necessary to help the illuminati enslave the free peoples of the world. The medication allows him to steal my brain one atom at a time.

I am on to you, I am on to IMC's connection to the global neo-conservative Jewish agenda; aka the Illuminati.

To Steve and Anti-Yuppie:

That action is being organized in Palo Alto because it is PALO ALTO ANARCHIST ACTION organizing it. They're not a bunch of bored kids, they are people who have real political beliefs, and are conducting actions based on those beliefs where they live. Anarchist Action does not only hold actions in Palo Alto. San Francisco Palo Alto held a May Day and March 19 anti-war contingent in San Francisco. Anarchist Action has facilitated Kansas City in organizing a Midwest anti-G8 convergence, along with the West Coast one being organized by SF Anarchist Action. So please, before you pull those silly comments out of each other's asses, you both should take a look at what you are criticizing. I would also like to hear about what kind of actions either of you (well, not Steve, since he's a conservative moron) are organizing. If Anti-Yuppie choses to get the fuck off of his/her ass, maybe I'll see him/her at the upcoming West Coast convergence.
by mistake
"San Francisco Palo Alto held a May Day and March 19 anti-war contingent in San Francisco."

I meant to say, "San Francisco Anarchist Action held a MayDay and March 19th anti-war contingent in San Francisco".
by butanelord
I believe in what you all are doing! We have to fight back and make the corporations pay for their racist plot to transform our world into a Bushler-esque Soviet death camp. Please, please, please don't hurt the Digital Egg in Lytton Plaza! I heard rumors that someone was going to make an exaple of the work, as it represents the capitalist silicon valley hate machine, but I beg you don't do it!! Someone put their heart and soul in it, even if it was a misguided support of technology's control of our lives! PLEASE don't HURT the EGG! I beg you!
by Joe
The egg should not be hurt. The egg was made by a radical artist in order to undermine a couple of businessmen's proposal to get rid of the last piece of public space in downtown Palo Alto and turn it into fountains and outdoor seating for yuppies. The artist who created was a revolutionary and has showed her support for the protests. The egg has many politically charged messages written on it, which paint a negative picture of the military industrial complex found in Silicon Valley and the Palo Alto area.
by ackafarter
Anarchists are really good at acomplishing nothing, but they might be able to stop by the coffeeshop and discuse the protest afterwards. Atleast they wil contribute money to the economy by drinking cofee, and then maybe they can go shop at a "counter-culture" store like Hot Topic.

FIGHT THE MACHINE MAN! Instead of paying $25.00 for a shirt with POLO on it, I'm going to pay $25.00 for a shirt that says, "Your stupid." Yeah that will show the corporate capitalist machine who is boss!
by hey, "ackafarter"
shut the fuck up. While you could certainly find hypocrisy in any movement and latch onto it--why not look at a group that displayws hypocrisy rampantly, like the republicans.(Especially the current administration)

building something can be just as subversive as destroying...

it wouldn't be a bad idea to build more things like this and set them up on your own
by Spartacus
You are all idiots. Go back to whatever city your rich parents spawned you from! Please don't hurt the egg. . . unhh, please don't hurt me . . . it's a real protest, huh? What is wrong with outdoor space? Fools, you insipid little junior college fools.
