July 6-8: West Coast Anti-Capitalist Convergence and March (July 8) against the G8
Take the Streets and Resist the Capitalist War Machine on July 8! Call for the West Coast anti-war and anti-capitalist mass convergence, July 6-8 of 2005 in San Francisco, in solidarity with the mobilization against the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Scotland.
All Empires Must Fall!
West Coast Anti-Capitalist Mobilization Against the G8
July 6-8, San Francisco
Call for the West Coast anti-war and anti-capitalist mass convergence, July 6-8 of 2005 in San Francisco, in solidarity with the mobilization against the Group of Eight (G8) summit in Scotland. July 8 is the day of the March.
Convergence Schedule:
July 6: Informational discussion forum, film screening, and and fundraising event. 7 pm, location to be announced on the website.
.
July 7: Spokescouncil at 7 pm, Village Market (18th St. & Florida).
July 8: Take to the streets in protest and action against the G8 & the Capitalist War Machine!
Meet at 8 pm. 16th St. & Mission BART.
From July 6-8, 2005, the annual G8 summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland. The G8 is a forum of the rulers of the eight most industrialized, wealthy, and powerful states in the world. Every year they meet to discuss how to further their interests, expand their empire, and tighten their grip on every aspect of our lives. The consequences effect us all, and their economic success comes at our expense. The G8 exists to manage and maintain a system whose impacts we see all around us: war, genocide, wage slavery, mass poverty, structural racism, famine, environmental destruction, colonial domination in Africa, Asia, & Latin America, social alienation, and accelerating attacks on working people around the world.
But resistance is growing across the globe, in struggles as diverse as they are numerous. And in recent years, everywhere the G8 has met huge movements of people have confronted them, both demanding systemic change and fighting for a global social revolution. In recognition of the call to action by Peoples' Global Action (agp.org) for Global Days of Action to be held against the G8, we are mobilizing for a regional convergence here in San Francisco. We are calling on everyone ready to fight for a better world - workers, students, revolutionaries, anti-capitalists... - from across the North American West Coast to converge and manifest their resistance on the streets. A Mid-West regional convergence is being called for in Kansas City (check out: anarchistaction.org/g8), and East Coast in Richmond, Virginia.
Our convergence will be in solidarity with those descending upon the streets of Scotland to face the G8 head on. We act in solidarity with revolutionaries taking to the streets to defend working peoples' lives all around the world: the struggle against neoliberal privatization in Bolivia; against transit fare increases in Brazil, Chicago, and San Francisco; against the Minutemen along the border; and against the PG&E power plant in Hunter's Point.
Global capital will show the full force of its domestic military capabilities in Scotland - we can confront these summits on our own terms, and this mobilization is a step in that direction.
Capitalism is everywhere, but so are we - we will converge in our city and fight it on our own terms!

I'm not able to make this meeting to talk about vision and strategery, but I was wondering if anyone could generally outline the idea for what will happen after assembling at 16th and Mission BARt. I want to try to get to that after work, but a few things strike me. First, there are a lot of salvadoran and chinese businesses in the immediate neighborhood, but not so many G8 related things that I can think of. Is the idea to find a symbolic location to stand near to make a point? If so, the financial district would be the most symbolic G8-related site rich terrain, and we would have to walk over there.
And do I even need to point out the recent pattern of police springing into action to enforce an imaginary line between 6th and 5th street on Market and just taking everyone located on the block to jail, regardless of how illegal this is. I have personally been nearby on at least three actions where there were mass arrests right here. It is because they don't want people near the mall by the street car turnaround at 5th st. Also, they would seriously freak out if we got near Union square, as demonstrated during several March 2003 era protests. This might be doubly true because the police clearly are focused on the participants affiliated with Anarchist Action of Palo Alto.
So, what is the plan. You don't have to give details here, but you can also assume that a couple junior police dept members might go to the spokescouncil anyway, so a general vision outline is good, particularly for people who might have to travel long distances. Basically, are we going to walk around and interact with the community with flyers, or are we going to go to G8 related sites to complain to them, or is there something creative to do? or will we piece it together as it goes on Friday?

At least wait until the Thursday 7pm spokescouncil decides on what is to be done. Or do you believe like some people, genrally corporate types, that we plan everything in advance and just have spokescouncils for show.
I am however sure, that no one wants to trash small businesses.

The, uh, 'capitalist war machine' is in, like, you know, Iraq. So why are you bothering people here? Maybe you could just send some snappy emails or something. Just remember, the police and cleanup costs are going to come out of social service money. And you're not going to make any difference to anyone in Scotland.
ever heard of Betchel?
do you have any idea of how many billions, yes, billions they have already made off this war with no end in sight to this tax-payer subsidized trough?
giant profits are being made right here in SF.
the maker of the Bradley fighting vehicles is down south a bit and then of course you have Lockheed and others down that way as well.
oh, yeah, a pretty penny is being made from the war right here in the Bay Area while we're closing schools all over because supposedly we just don't have the money. maybe if we could have had lieing Iraqi defectors claim to know where WMDs were inside of US public schools then our children would have $200+ billion more for their education, or maybe if the WMDs were in hospitals, we would have used that money to assure every citizen in this country health insurance. naw, better to shovel it over to Betchel, Halliburton, et al and pretend there's no connection to what's happening here

I don't understand why you have to hurt someone else to make a statement or point of view known. People get upset when YOU disrupt their peace and quiet with your violent ways. Get a life! Find a peaceful way. It works better in the long run. Taking shortcuts the violet way only hurts your cause and message. You won't win the bigger group that way.
yeah, you should've been there to ask the cop the same question.
You dont have to ram your vehicle into the back of a crowd to get your message across. jeesh!

Why don't you kiddies have a dirt clod fight instead of playing cat and mouse with the police? You'd get your adrenaline-rush jollies without bothering anybody.
It's ironic that most police are from the working class, and here they are having to fend of middle class kids pretending to be revolutionaries.
Why not have a dirt clod fight and save everybody the trouble?
[He censor: The truth hurts, don't it?]

not one person I know who went to the demo on Friday makes as much as cops do.
yes, cops are working class, but whose interests are they employed to protect?
when workers strike the cops defend the bosses property and help get scabs into the workplace safely. when workers are evicted, the cops assist the landlord--and on and on.
