June is celebrated internationally as Gay Pride Month. Nevada County Equality California (NC EQCA) is celebrating Gay Pride Month with three events. We invite the residents and community leaders of Nevada County to join us.

On Saturday, June 11th we will be joining Sacramento County Equality California and Sacramento NOW to march in the Sacramento Gay Pride parade and attend the Sacramento Pride Fair.

On Thursday, June 16th Nevada County Equality California is hosting the first of two June movie nights. On June 16th the video "Not in Our Town Northern California " will be featured. The video will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the UU Community of the Mountains, 246 S. Church Street, corner of Walsh St. in Grass Valley. The evening will open with a brief update on AB 19 and the initiatives that have been filed to get a constitutional amendment on the June 2006 ballot. The video "Not in Our Town Northern California" describes five different towns in Northern California and how those communities responded to incidents of hate in their respective communities. The video will be followed by open discussion among the audience – let’s talk about how we would like our local community to respond if we experience incidents based on hate and prejudice here. Are there ongoing problems Nevada County residents are experiencing due to hate and bigotry? How do we perceive our community? Are our perceptions based on fantasy or reality? What are the strengths our community can build on? How can we form community alliances to create cohesiveness within our county? This event is open to the public and we strongly encourage our local government leaders, school officials, religious leaders and business owners to join us. Attendance is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be provided.

On Thursday, June 16th a second Movie Night will be held, featuring the video "Tying the Knot". This video examines the marriage equality issue and how the lack of legal civil marriage for same-sex couples affects peoples’ lives. Prior to the video we will have a brief presentation regarding the progress the Gay Rights Movement has made from Stonewall to the present and the celebration of Gay Pride Month internationally. This event is open to the public and will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the UU Community of the Mountains, 246 S. Church St., corner of Walsh St., in Grass Valley. Admission is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be provided. Audience discussion will take place after the video. We especially welcome folks who have not made up their minds about this issue. Please join us for the video and participate in the following discussion. Bring your questions and please feel free to share your beliefs. If you have a friend, co-worker or family member you would like to discuss this issue with, bring them to Movie Night. Why does the issue of civil marriage equality affect single g/l/b/t people? How does it affect straight people? Let’s talk.

The Nevada County Chapter of Equality California ("NC EQCA") is joining forces with the Sacramento Chapter of Equality California ("EQCA") and the Sacramento Chapter of the National Organization for Women ("NOW") - we will be marching together in the Sacramento Pride Parade! Please join us!
