Big Berlin anti-right demo photos

by de.indymedia
There are a lot of antifascist 'antifa' demonstrations in Germany on a weekly basis, and there was a particularly powerful event May 8th,the anniversary of the end of WWII, in Berlin when a far right NPD party had 3000 people out supporting rightist economic positions and making a statement on that germans should be getting over guilt of World War II.
The left, which has some factions matching those seen in the U.S., such as anarchists in black sweatshirts, and some unique perspectives such as the 'antideutsch', and a few kommunist groups, were also out in high numbers and were able to stop the far-right from marching.
See photos at german indymedia here:

Nice labeled pictures of seniors and regular people, architecture, and the waterwerfer. Berlin has so much more tolerance for graffiti on nice old buildings!

Here are some right-winger NPD supporters. Look at their clothing - it's sort of creepy how the left-wing black hooded sweatshirts, and the right wingers can overlap with their blue-collar appearance. They have a different image than the typical american right wing demo for the Promise Keepers or supporting troops or opposing abortion - which isn't necessarily upscale, but just looks different.

Anarchists and normal looking people in a rural demo in Heisenhof. There were forced workers at a cement factory here during the war, and there are NPD people standing in the woods filming them for their face files.

Also in Munich where Hitler rose:
here in a subway plus outside plaza with nice buildings. only some police carry guns

An arrest. A line of neonazis that includes older women. A skinhead appearance more typically means nazi than in the U.S. where it can mean 'punk' or 'I'm stylish and balding'.

Here is a link of good photos of police maneuvers, with their water cannon brigade and so forth. At american demos, it seems like there are also these lines of police with helmets, but over there, you regularly see a line of 40-50 police cars going by, while here it seems like the different cars all are acting independently.

Oh, to clarify, the Deutschland du Opfer concert was a progressive group. 'Opfer' is a victim or sacrifice. It is a play on the movement by the right to discuss how ordinary german citizens suffered under the nazis too. One of the problems of the german left is that the neo-nazis have recently downplayed their 'foreigners out' message, and replaced it with emphasis on more populist themes that moderates can actually easily support, such as support of palestinian cause, and talking about starvation and deaths of germans during and after the war. The left then has a bigger task of making it clear what the right's underlying economic and social aims really are.

In the sign by the stage, they have a left-wing group that is called 'Critique and Praxis, Berlin', where it sounds like they have long philosophical discussions about their praxis.
