At a time when many countries in Latin America are backsliding into economic hardship and political difficulties, Chile has continued to make remarkable economic and social progress. Ambassador Bianchi will look at the factors are that have enabled Chile to keep moving forward, and also discuss potential impacts of a US-Chile Free Trade Agreement.



Andrés Bianchi was appointed Ambassador of Chile to the United States in May 2000. Prior to becoming Ambassador, he served as Chairman of the Dresdner Banque Nationale de Paris in Chile (1996-2000) and Chairman of Credit Lyonnais Chile (1992-1996). Mr. Bianchi has advised the Central Banks of Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
