Indybay Urgently Needs You To Donate To Continue Operating

by indybay
The SF Bay Area Independent Media Center is a grassroots organization truly committed to using media production and distribution as a tool to promote social and
economic justice. The IMC is a cooperative effort of hundreds of
independent journalists and media activists. We are neither owned nor
funded by big conglomerates or advertisers -- that's why we urgently need your
support now to sustain our efforts!
If you find the coverage on Indybay to be a useful part of your socially conscious life, we ask that you make a small donation of just $5-10. Every little bit you can give will help us maintain this website and keep our media lab operating as a community resource. If you are a heavy user and visit the site daily or even weekly, please consider a medium-sized donation of $20-40. If you regularly publish to the newswire, especially posting larger media files, you can help us continue to be a great open-publishing resource and remain on solid footing into the future by making a more sizable donation of your choice.

Please, DONATE whatever you can afford. We need money to pay rent on our space in the Mission District and we have to upgrade our server's hard drives very soon. We are running out of disk space fast and we have perhaps a month left before the drives completely fill up.

Part of the reason we are running out of server space is that we try not to delete old content. Videos and pictures from protests four years ago are still available on our site. If you value keeping this content on our site and want it to continue, please donate.

Since the server running this site uses four identical hot-swap scsi drives (in a RAID array), upgrading is not cheap. Between rent and disks we need upwards of $2000 to assure our continued operations for the next 6 months. We are a 100% volunteer organization and all donations go directly toward operating costs.

Any donation over $40 also gets you a 1-year subscription to Fault Lines, the monthly newspaper of the SF Bay Area IMC.

Thank you for your support!

Right now it says "$404.00999999978"

That's probably not what you want.

I love that you tell us how much you need and what for.
I love that you show how much has been raised in the past month (this is why I donated, even though it was tiny, I try to a little here and there).
I wish I could see how much total has been donated toward the goal. It's no biggy, but it would be nice to see.

Thanks for all the hard work. I love indymedia

That's great! And so fast!

We're about halfway towards our goal of fundraising $2000 for operating expenses (after accounting for some donations by check), so keep donating... Thanks!

You mean $635 is half of $2000?

I just added our grand total to the left column, as opposed to the subtotal for the past 30 days.

P.S. Thanks to the right-winger who donated $0.01! Anyone want to donate an extra 99 cents to round it out..? ;)

There are a lot of 9/11 events, researchers and activists in the Bay Area that get no place on this site. It's likely that people would donate if you added a 9/11 page. If you need someone to keep track of it, ask.

All that it takes to maintain a feature page on indybay is one or more volunteer editors. Email sfbay-web [at] indymedia.org to get involved, subscribe to sfbay-announce to get invites for upcoming orientations, and also watch our "get involved" page for announcements (see left column).

stories about government coverups, corruption, etc. go on the gov't page (9-11 of course being just the tip of the iceberg as far as government coverups go ;)

...but I'm not making my donation contingent on it. Please consider it. Portland has set a great example.
