March 11th brings the spoken word artist/performer/MC/author solidad decosta to the microphone. solidad is a mixed race herm/queer woman of black latina maternal ancestry. equal parts street journalist, storyteller and 40 something crone–ta–be with leo moon credentials, her work encompasses the why and where of life outside the boxes in a label obsessed world, and the what, when, who and how of everything else.

QUEER OPEN MIC is a rowdy rockin’ revolution meant for queers and allies of all stripes, colors, and affiliations to come together and share art, poems, thoughts, conversations, passions and a damn good cuppa joe. All donations benefit the performers and The Center.

Scheduled upcoming featured readers include: Jacob Perez (3/25,) Tim’m West & Transition (4/8), Thea Hillman (4/22), Meliza Banales (5/13), Ryka Aoki (5/27) and many many more!

SPECIFIC EVENT DETAILS:
QUEER OPEN MIC happens on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month at the THREE DOLLAR BILL CAFÉ on the first floor of the SF LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER at 1800 Market @ Octavia in SF and is hosted by Cindy M. Emch.

Open Mic sign up begins at 7:30, readings start at 8pm. Anyone with special needs should contact Cindy the night of the event for any specific accommodations. $1-5 donations benefit the performers and The Center (http://www.sfcenter.org) in an effort to encourage more queer art in our community. No one turned away for lack of funds. (Open mic readers get 5 minutes, one poem or 3 pages of prose, whichever fits the material best)
