Don’t miss this special International Women's Day celebration!
SOLIDARITY WITH OUR IRAQI SISTERS
Saturday, March 12, 7:30pm
Celebrate the indomitable women of Iraq who are combating the double jeopardy of U.S. occupation and escalating fundamentalism. Even in the face of U.S. bombs, abuse of female prisoners, rampant unemployment and increasingly violent internal repression, Iraqi women are courageously fighting back. They are organizing public demonstrations against rape and kidnapping, demanding U.S. withdrawal, and many openly boycotted the recent elections in protest of legitimizing a right wing religious state.
Hear firsthand accounts from a leader in one of the most outspoken women’s groups in Iraq, and discuss what U.S. feminists and anti-war activists can do to support our embattled sisters. Bring your ideas to revitalize the militant movement against the U.S. occupation. Stop the war at home and abroad!
Speakers:
HUDA SAMIR
Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq, U.S. representative
NANCY REIKO KATO
Anti-war labor activist and National Radical Women Organizer
A delicious Middle Eastern Buffet (with vegan options) will be served at 6:00pm. The requested door donation is $3.00-5.00, and the buffet donation $8.50 (child's plate $4.00). Work exchanges are available.
The event takes place at New Valencia Hall, 1908 Mission Street (at 15th Street) in San Francisco (near 16th Street BART, on #14 and #49 MUNI lines).
