The War of the Roads - Palestinians protests strangulation of their village

by louis bettencourt
On Saturday the 19th of February at 9-00 AM residents of Kefar Kadum will be joined by Internationals and Israelis* on a march to the
locked Israeli Gate at the entrance of their village.
Kefar Kadum and its four thousand residents are surrounded by the settlement of Kedumim and the Kedumim military Base.
The settlement uses the main road to Kefar Kadum as its own. Since the beginning of the current Intifada the Israeli military installed a gate at the village entrance which they have closed periodically. Two weeks ago
the gate was locked and the villagers told by the military that they would no longer be allowed to use the Road. Their Village has become a prison.

Palestine-Israel, The War of the Roads- Saturday Action Palestinians Protests Strangulation of their village

On Saturday the 19th of February at 9-00 AM residents of Kefar Kadum
will be joined by Internationals and Israelis* on a march to the
locked Israeli Gate at the entrance of their village.
Kefar Kadum and its four thousand residents are surrounded by the
settlement of Kedumim and the Kedumim military Base. The settlement
uses the main road to Kefar Kadum as its own. Since the beginning
of the current Intifada the Israeli military installed a gate at the
village entrance which they have closed periodically. Two weeks ago
the gate was locked and the villagers told by the military that they
would no longer be allowed to use the Road. Their Village has become a prison.

This Israeli strategy is wide spread throughout the occupied
territories. Particularly in the area Israel plans to annex as the
Ariel settlement block. More and more the roads that settlers have
taken over for their own use are being closed to Palestinians who
are left with round about agricultural roads as the only source of
access to their villages.

Another example is the village of Salfit which serves as a regional
center. Its main entrance has been confiscated by the settlement of
Ariel and its residents have been barred from it for the last four
years. An arrangement that now appears to be permanent.

Could you post a map which shows these roads, where the gate is, and what, if any alternative roads now exist?

It would be a lot easier to see what the issue is if there was a map of the area which showed the relative positions of the Palestinian village and the surrounding Jewish town and Israeli base.

Thanks for your efforts in advance.

And if the Palestinian People were allowed to have their Viable State called for in the Road Map to Peace, The Roads could be for everyone, instead of only for the Jewish Settlers.

Is it not strange that all the different little problems are caused because the Palestinian People are under Occupation and being oppressed.

Thirty-six years of war should be enough for such a small number of people, when you consider the World Population.
Allowing the Palestinian People to have their small state in the Whole of the West Bank and Gaza can solve this conflict.
There are 1,200,000 or so Arabs living inside Israel Proper.
There are 400,000 or so Jews living inside the West Bank and Gaza.
Trying to remove all the settlement can be an almost undoable task.
So Set the Borders for Israel to it Pre 1967 Border (Green Line) and have the State of Palestine inside the West Bank and Gaza.
If the U.N. can decide the Borders of Israel in 1948,
The U.N. can decide the Borders of Palestine in 2005.
You would end up with Israel with a majority Jewish Population and Palestine with a majority Muslim Population.
This would allow for the Israeli Military to Guard and Control the Israeli pre 1967 borders instead of confiscating Palestinian Land and Demolishing Palestinian Homes in the West Bank and Gaza that only goes to fuel the need for the Palestinian People to fight for their Freedom.
The Jews who do not like living in the new Palestinian State can feel free to move to Israel if they so choose.
The Arabs living inside Israel can feel free to move to the new Palestinian State if they so choose.
Almost every nation on earth has more then one ethnic group or religious group, so why not Israel and Palestine?
It would sure be better then the never-ending conflict we have right now.

Who has died and how in this struggle for Palestinian Freedom?

Is it not strange that all the different little problems are caused because the Israeli People are under Terroristic Threat and being menaced.

Thirty-seven years of war should be enough for such a small number of people, when you consider the World Population.
Allowing the Palestinian People to have their small state in the Whole of the West Bank and Gaza can not in itself solve this conflict.
There are 1,200,000 or so Arab settlers living inside Israel Proper.
There are 400,000 or so Jews living inside the West Bank and Gaza.
Trying to remove all the settlements can be an almost undoable task.
So Set the Borders for Israel to somewhat beyond its Pre 1967 Border (Green Line) and have the State of Palestine inside Part of the West Bank and Gaza.
If the U.N. could decide the Borders of Israel in 1947 and fail to protect the Jews from the Arab Attack that ensued,
The U.N. can not decide the Borders of Palestine in 2005.
You would end up with Israel with a majority Jewish Population and Palestine with a majority Muslim Population.
This would allow for the Israeli Military to Guard and Control the new Israeli Borders instead of confiscating Palestinian Land and Demolishing Palestinian Homes in the West Bank and Gaza, provided the Palestinian Terrorists stop trying to rob the Israeli People of their Freedom, which only goes to fuel the Israeli reprisals.
The Jews who do not like living in the new Palestinian State can feel free to move to Israel if they so choose.

What a big surprise!! No map.
Joseph Anderson's repetitive postings which don't address the issue raised by the article posted.
And ANGEL also has to repost her factually incorrect article which does not address the issues raised either.

Indyreaders should think long and hard before they get behind JA or Angel since they can't seem to communicate except by repetitive postings of issues long since refuted.

Despite the state of calm in the Palestinian Authority, terror groups are continuing to produce weaponry and prepare for "strategic terror attacks" that can be activated if the cease-fire breaks down, a senior IDF Intelligence Branch officer warned Tuesday in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

The officer said the terror groups were exploiting the current cease-fire to produce and stockpile Kassam rockets and mortars without disturbance. Most of the terror groups were continuing to plan strategic attacks to be carried out within Israel if Israel did not "supply the goods" or if the understandings within the PA collapsed, he said. A few attacks have already been prepared, he warned.

The officer also said there were terror groups that were trying to carry out attacks within Israel, especially Fatah cells that are linked to Hizbullah. Security forces have received two specific warnings, the intelligence officer added.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, who also briefed the committee, said there has been a "change" in the PA leadership with the abandoning of the "terror ethos" for achieving national aims.

Mofaz said the problem was that PA security forces were limited and not that effective.

Mofaz said the next step needs for the PA to make a transition to active operations. At present, he said the PA was not interested in doing so, because the PA has reached understandings with the terror groups and does not want a confrontation with them. Mofaz concluded by saying that he could not give the PA a "passing grade," in its anti-terror efforts.

The intelligence officer said the PA was improving in its security and acting to prevent attacks, including halting the people sent to carry them out if information was received.

However, the people behind the plans have not been arrested. About eight arms-smuggling tunnels leading from the Sinai to Gaza have also been closed, he said. However, weapons are not being collected and there were no moves against infrastructure, he noted.

An Operations Branch officer said the IDF has halted its targeted assassinations and instead would only target Palestinians considered as "ticking bombs." In the past few weeks, 12 Palestinians have been arrested who were in this category, he said.
