William Crossman will discuss his new book VIVO [Voice-In/Voice-Out]: The Coming Age of Talking Computers. Crossman predicts that talking computers, VIVOs, will make text/written language obsolete, replace writing and reading with speech and graphics, democratize information flow worldwide, and recreate an oral culture by 2050. William Crossman is a philosopher, teacher and long-time political activist involved with issues of education, media and technology, language and culture, and human rights. He is the founder/director of the CompSpeak 2050 Institute for the Study of Talking Computers and Oral Cultures and teaches at Vista Community College in Berkeley. Free and open to the public.
