Workshops will include information on careers in education, law, medicine, journalism, nursing, social welfare, law enforcement, music, Aztec, salsa and ballet dance, theater, environment, politics, art, engineering, science, computer & information technology, military, poetry and building and construction trades. Pre-register or register on-site. Show up before 9 a.m., chorizo burritos and pan dulce will be served. And a carnita burrito lunch.
All parents are invited to learn about financial aid, college entrance exams and college prep courses and there will be workshops on gang awareness, parent and community involvement by M.A.L.D.E.F. and the N.C.L.R.
All students who attend the FREE Youth Leadership Conference will receive a t-shirt at the end of the day made by the Royal Chicano Art Force (R.C.A.F.). Eligible students must be in 6th to 12th grade. Keynote Speaker Arturo Gonzalez, Law Partner of Morrison & Foerster will speak before the “Embrace the Legacy” Walk/March 2005 at lunch in honor of Cesar Chavez – the passed leader of farm workers and civil rights for all.
Also the Kaiser Permanente Educational Theater Program will show a special performance of “Nightmare on Puberty Street” in the Dietrich Theater from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. after the career and college track workshops are completed. The play involves comedy, music, dance & emotional drama with ethnically diverse student characters. All School Districts are invited to attend.
And Manuel Pickett’s Student Actor’s from his “Teatro Espejo” at California State University Sacramento will perform a play. Art will also be displayed by the Co-Madres Artistas celebrating their 13th Anniversary in the Fireside Room next to the cafeteria.
