Send in your KPFA ballot!
Ballots for the KPFA Local Station Board election must be received by next Saturday, December 4. (The deadline was changed because of late mailing of the ballots.) They can be mailed (preferably by Wednesday) or can be brought to the station ONLY ON SATURDAY between 11 am and 7 pm.
If you are a KPFA listener who gave $25 or more to the station in the year ending August 31, 2004, or if you are on record as having put in 3 hours of volunteer time during that period, you are eligible to vote in the election for nine listener representatives to the Local Station Board. If you have not yet received your ballot, you should immediately call (toll-free) 877-217 6928 ext 205 and request a replacement. With luck, you should receive it in time to bring it to the station on Saturday.
For more information, see http://election.kpfa.org/.
The ballot is a preferential ballot, which means you can vote for any or all of the candidates and rank them in whatever order you choose. If anybody you choose is eliminated, your vote will be transferred to the next candidate in your ranking, so there is no "spoiler" effect.
I am a candidate in this election and am asking for your vote. My web site is http://kpfa.aarons.fastmail.fm/. Many of you know my politics from my many posts to this and other indymedia sites. If you don't, you can do a google search using the URL at the end of this post.
In addition to encouraging you to vote for me, I am also urging you to give high ranking to all the candidates listed at http://peoplesradio.net/. I believe that the strongest among this group are Joe Wanzala, Michael Lubin, Gerald Sanders, Stan Woods, LaVarn Williams and Richard Phelps. (I don't have strong feelings about the order of these six.) The other four: Chandra Hauptman, Ted Friedman, Steve Conley and Attila Nagy are also way preferable to the "KPFA Forward" slate, who apparently are aligned with entrenched staff (Bensky, Maldari, Mericle, Alfandary et al.) to keep anti-imperialist voices on the station to a minimum.
Disclaimer: The endorsements expressed in the preceding paragraph are mine alone, and have not been approved by any of the candidates mentioned.

Until I saw it mentioned on another indymedia site a few hours ago, I hadn't seen or heard any indication that one was supposed to sign the ballot stub that gets sent in with the ballot!
If you haven't sent in your ballot yet, please read the instructions on the back carefully before doing so! One of the things you should do, according to those instructions, is sign your name on the line with the word "signature" in very small type next to it. If you hold the stub with the words "KPFA Local Station Board Election" right side up (and thus with your name and address upside down!), the place for your signature is ABOVE the bar code!
I have no idea if the elections judges will disqualify ballots that are not signed. If they do, there may not be enough valid ballots returned to meet the 10% requirement to make the election valid. This would not be good for listener democracy at KPFA!
