Castro Street Rally
Date:
Tuesday, November 02, 2004
Time:
6:00 PM
-
10:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Aaron Merritt
Location Details:
intersection of 18th Street and Castro street, in the heart of the Castro.
Tuesday night, we will be renegading in San Francisco's Castro district. Whether you are straight, gay, or bi, you have to agree that as Bush is attempting to ensure that gay people remain as second class sinners in his Christian Right wing war on civil rights and freedom, and that a war on the freedom of one group of people is a war on freedom of everybody.
With a flatbed truck, we'll drive into the middle of the intersection of 18th and Castro about about 6pm, stop in the middle of the intersection and park, stopping traffic, and inviting pedestrians into the street. The best way to ensure that that occurs peacefully and happily is if many people show up to show thier solidarity.
We'll have a sound system to broadcast music as well as election results, and we'll have 3 projectors show real time results of local election issues, as well as nationwide results of issue affecting equal rights around the country.
There will be stage entertainment, music, and political speakers and more happening until about 10pm or later. Will this be a protest against Bush or a celebration of his being fired by the people, that has yet to be decided. What is certain is that people are tired of the way things are going, and we want all of you to come out to the Castro to show your solidarity in opposition of a represive government, and (hopefully) the new changes in DC towards a less oppressive government.
