The International Caravan for Justice will travel across the United States and Mexico to fight for justice for the women in Juarez and Chihuahua. Almost 400 young women -- half of whom work in maquiladoras opened in Mexico under the North American Free Trade Agreement -- have been murdered in these two border cities over the past decade.
Government and police officials are inadequately investigating the growing number of deaths, while maquiladora owners refuse to acknowledge their responsibility for safety measures.
The caravan will raise consciousness about conditions faced by women along the border.
Hear testimony from Ramona Morales, mother of Silvia Elena Rivera Morales, victim of the Juarez femicides, and from Jessica Marques, representative of the Mexico Solidarity Network, who will discuss the influence of globalization and neoliberal economic policies on the femicides.
New College of California Cultural Center, 766 Valencia Street, San Francisco.
$3-5 recommended donation, no one turned away for lack of funds.
