Lech Walesa, the legendary leader of the Solidarity movement, 1983 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former president of Poland (1990-1995), will visit the San Francisco Bay area on September 24-26. He will meet with the students, parents and friends of The Athenian School in Danville, CA, on September 26 where he will introduce The Goetz Academy Project.

The Goetz Academy Project is an international initiative developed by a group of educators from the East Bay Area under the auspices the US-based Goetz Academy Project Foundation formed especially to help underwrite and implement this initiative. The Goetz Academy will be the first college preparatory, residential school of its kind in all of Central and Eastern Europe, offering International Baccalaureate curriculum (in English). In addition, the curriculum will combine the educational philosophy of Dr. Kurt Hahn, the creator of Schule Schloss Salem, Gordonstoun School, Atlantic College and other well-known prep schools in Western Europe, and his emphasis on developing a whole, intelligent, involved and responsible person with the principles of internationalism and global citizenship.
