We have a lot to be concerned about these days. We all know these are times when it is crucial that we focus our efforts on changing the current direction of America's foreign policy.

While staying on task is important, there is also merit in taking a step back from time to time. Without some perspective, we run the risk of becoming a myopic, fractured, and ultimately a vanquished movement.

For just one evening, we're asking that peace activists from across the spectrum of our movement come together in order to look at where we've been, where we are now, and where we want to go.

If we are to be effective, we must know exactly what it is we want and have a strategy to get there. Only then, can we take the initiative; stop merely reacting to the crisis of the day, and start, instead, to practice preemptive peace.

Let's work together to get there. Please accept our invitation for you and your fellow activists to participate in this important event.

The San Francisco’s Chronicle's Jonathan Curiel will moderate a discussion on these topics with the leaders of some of our area's most dynamic activist organizations. Students, activists, and concerned people of all types are encouraged not just to listen, but also to take part in the creation of a new agenda for creating lasting peace, security, and justice in our world.

Sponsored by the World Federalists of Northern California, the International House at U.C. Berkeley (as part of the Democracy in a Globalized World? series), and U.C. Berkeley's Peace and Conflict Studies.
