Ted Nace will speak on “Sequencing the Corporate Genome: Understanding why corporations have so much power in American society”. Nace is the author of _Gangs of America: The Rise of Corporate Power and the Disabling of Democracy_ (Berrett-Koehler, 2003) and the founder of Peachpit Press. Corporate Personhood is the legal fiction that corporations are people rather than property, and that they have the same rights as human beings. (Just as slavery is the legal fiction that human beings are property.) Nace will take us on a tour through the historical precendents leading to the current legal situation and tell us about the movement to make the voices of human beings heard before those of corporations. Free. The program will be broadcast live on Community Media cable Channel 28 (in the mid-peninsula) and rebroadcast on Channels 27 and 28 throughout September. It is part of the ongoing “Other Voices” television series produced by Peninsula Peace and Justice Center.
