Calling all activists! Now is the time to get involved!
SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty) has been one of the top news stories
of late. Under US Attorney General John Ashcroft, the “War on Terror” has
become a war on the First Amendment! Now more than ever we need YOUR help
to speak out against the ghastly practices of Huntingdon Life Sciences.
It is time to show Ashcroft and the animal abusers of the world that we
know our rights and we intend to use them!
Weekend of action to SHUT DOWN HUNTINGDON LIFE SCIENCES!
AUGUST 12- 15 2004
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
Schedule:
THURSDAY AUGUST 12
Teach-In
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: 522 Valencia @16th
What is all this SHAC and HLS business I’ve been hearing about anyway? Get
the scoop from local and national activists working on the campaign to
shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences.
Topics include: What is HLS and why target them?
A brief history of the campaign to shut down HLS including undercover
investigations, activism and security culture in the face of government
repression, and what you can do!
Following the speakers, there will be a short work party to prepare for
the upcoming protest and home demonstrations!
FRIDAY AUGUST 13
Protest in San Francisco’s Financial District
Time: 11:30 am
Location: Justin Herman Plaza
BART stop: Embarcadero
HLS is in business for one reason and one reason alone: Money! Erase
their profit margin and wave goodbye to HLS! Workers at HLS have been
exposed in 5 undercover investigations committing egregious acts of animal
abuse. Despite this knowledge a few companies still insist on financially
supporting HLS. While these corporations may lack a conscience, they do
know the language of economics.
Join activists on a tour through San Francisco’s financial district as
they spread the message to current and possible supporters of HLS: Doing
business with HLS is one of the worst economic decisions a company can
make!
Vegan Potluck and Video Showing
Time: 8 pm
Location: 1884 Market Street @ Laguna
Eat yummy vegan food, watch videos and get to know your fellow activists!
Pleas email us at info@ardac.org if you need suggestions on what to bring.
SATURDAY AUGUST 14
Home Demos
Time: Noon
Location: 2300 16th Street, Safeway Plaza
The animals at HLS don’t get to clock out and go home for the weekend; so
neither should those who directly support HLS. It’s time to bring the
message home: You can’t do business with HLS and get away with it!
Join activists armed with banners, signs and leaflets as they caravan to
several homes of Bay Area HLS supporters to tell them this urgent message.
Please bring a car and a cell phone if you have one.
Candlelight Vigil
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: same meeting point
An estimated 9,270,000 animals have been murdered inside the walls of HLS
since its doors opened in 1952. Currently, approximately 500 animals a
day are needlessly killed and up to 70,000 animals are imprisoned inside
HLS at any given time.
Join activists for a candlelight vigil outside the home of a local Bay
Area HLS supporter in remembrance of all the animals murdered and
imprisoned at HLS.
SUNDAY AUGUST 15
Home Demo
Time: 9 am
Location: Safeway Plaza meeting point
The animals at HLS don’t get to sleep in… you know the rest!
Join activists as they caravan to an HLS supporter’s home to let them know
that animal abuse will not be tolerated! Please bring a car and a cell
phone if you have one.
