Dear Friends,
The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) is holding its next hearing on Localism in Broadcasting in Monterey, CA on July 21.
This is one of only six official FCC hearings being held across the country (for more information, see http://www.freepress.net/townmeetings). It's an extremely rare opportunity to tell the FCC about the state of your local media, how well TV and radio are serving your needs, and how you feel about the increasing consolidation of media ownership.
This hearing is especially important because a federal court has recently ordered the FCC to rewrite its new media ownership rules, which would have allowed big media conglomerates to get even bigger. Here's your chance to tell the FCC in person that localism and diversity cannot thrive under the effect of media consolidation. And demand that they listen to the public before they rewrite the rules again.
The hearing will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, July 21 at the Monterey Conference Center (1 Portola Plaza, Monterey, CA). Advance tickets will be distributed on Monday evening and Wednesday morning at the Conference Center.

Stand up and make your voice heard on July 21!
Sincerely,
Yolanda Hippensteele
