CENTRAL CALIFORNIA CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING FRESNO CENTER FOR NONVIOLENCE (Southeast corner of Van Ness and McKinley parking in back of building). This is our regular meeting time--3rd Thursday of the month since we started meeting at this location several months ago.
What a disappointment that the Fresno City Council voted (5-2) against an IPA, especially since the mayor told us he thought he had enough votes to get it passed.
What should we do now. Should we fold up and go away? Should we do more outreach into the community? Should we work on a ballot initiative? Vincent Lavery suggested an Oxford Debate. Sounds like a good way to reach the public, but neither of us has been able to find advocates who
will take the anti-IPA position--none of the council members who voted against it, not Jim Patterson who writes op-ed pieces about it. Can any of you connect us with someone who is willing to debate us?
We have received a small grant of $1500 from the California Women’s Foundation to further our goal. How can we best use it? Come with ideas.
