Tranny March Makes its Debut
Friday, June 25, marked the debut of the first Tranny March in San Francisco, and quite likely anywhere.
Some 2,000 transgender people and their friends and allies -- joined by some 100 Critical Mass bicyclists -- came out Friday evening to show their support for transgender rights and equality. When the march reached City Hall, and altar was set up to memorialize those lost to anti-trans violence. The crowd demanded justice for Gwen Araujo, a transgender teenager who was killed in 2002 after it was discovered that she was born biologically male. A mistrial was declared Tuesday after a deadlocked jury failed to convict Araujo's killers; prosecutors have said they would retry the case.

These pictures are great!! Thanx to everyone for coming out for the march. It is important to remember that the trans movement is growing but has been around. This October will be the Fourth annual trans march in downtown Santa Cruz.
I noticed various posting on the web calling our event "Tranny March" instead of Trans March. Just for clarification purpose. We decided to call the event Trans March since some members in our community find the word Tranny offesive.
We have enjoyed a great success with great turn out this year and we plan on making the next year's event even bigger. Trans Pride is not just about protest. There are much achievments and progress seen this year in the Trans community and Trans march was definitely a celebration for us as well!
See you all next year!
