Kurdish separatists killed in Turkey

by aljazeera
Turkish soldiers have killed five Kurdish separatists overnight in a military operation in eastern Turkey involving thousands of troops.

One soldier was also injured in the fighting on Sunday night in the Mazgirt and Nazimiye districts of mountainous Tunceli province, said military officials on Monday.

One woman was among the five dead fighters from the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

An official said 4,000 soldiers were taking part in the operation, supported by helicopters. It began after around 25 fighters were located in the region.

He said explosives were seized during the operation.

Violence has increased in the mainly Kurdish southeast since the PKK ended a unilateral six-year ceasefire on 1 June.

Security officials estimate more than 2,000 separatists have entered Turkey in recent months from hideouts in northern Iraq.

One soldier was killed and another injured on Saturday when their vehicle ran over a landmine planted by dissidents in the southeast.

The PKK launched an armed campaign for an ethnic homeland in the southeast in 1984 and more than 30,000 have been killed in the fighting. A ceasefire was declared in 1998. PKK leader Abd Allah Ocalan was captured the following year.

The Turks have killed 30,000 of "their own people" in the 1990s, and now they are doing it again? And they have a huge, sophisticated military with nasty weapons? And they are only 5 minutes from striking Tony Blair's low-hanging Cypriot testicles? And they are "Islamic"? - Goddam! That means we have to invade! I'm sure the neocons and Israel will be 100% behind this one, too...No?...Well maybe we can count on Iran, Kurds being fellow Persians & all...

Turkey is a member of NATO and the US is the one backing its entrance into the EU. The US also helped Turkey supress the Kurds during the 80s and 90s.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is bad logic, "the enemy of my enemies enemy is my enemy" is just downright crazy logic. Kurds may oppose the Shiite and Sunni oppositions in Iraq which are fighting the US, but the struggle of the Kurds should be evaluated on its own merit.

Logic doesn't matter when one is seized by a sudden fit of Kurdish nationalism.Tony Blair's low-hanging Cypriot testicles is bad logic, too, but I'm glad I wrote it.Call me a hero in error, it matters not.

After all, I just realized that Turkey is harboring al-Qaeda! That settles it. (And don't remind me that Ansar al-Islam is a Kurdish organization)
