STREET THEATER: CACI exposed: SF firm supplies mercenary torturers in Iraq
"CACI (referred to as "Khaki" in military circles) was originally called California Analysis Center Inc. and was formed in the 1960s by a pair of propeller-heads named Herbert Karr and Harry Markowitz, the latter of whom went on to win a Nobel Prize in economics in 1990 for his research on stock portfolio diversification. At a time when other businesses continue to struggle, notably those whose fortunes aren't hitched to the war on terrorism, CACI has enjoyed growth reminiscent of the dot-com era, on April 21 reporting a surge in net income, with profits doubling between 2001 and 2003, shooting from $22 million to $44 million."

Department of Interior releases Abu Ghraib contract
WASHINGTON, July 28, 2004 - The Center for Public Integrity has obtained the contract containing 11 work orders worth $66.2 million awarded to CACI International Inc., the company whose employees were alleged to be involved in the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal in Iraq. Details of the work orders did not come to light until last April, when reports emerged of U.S. interrogators allegedly abusing prisoners at the notorious Baghdad prison.
In Iraq, Virginia-based CACI provides "interrogation support and analysis work for the U.S. Army in Iraq," according to the company. Job descriptions obtained by the Center for Public Integrity show that CACI employees performed a variety of tasks in Iraq. Contractors were tasked with missions such as "debriefing of personnel ... intelligence report writing/quality control, and screening/interrogation of detainees at established holding areas." These contractors worked closely with military personnel. For example, those hired as interrogators were assigned to "coordinate and work in conjunction with [Military Police] unit and [Military Intelligence] interrogation units assigned to support operations of the Theater/Division Interrogation Facility."
