Patriot Missiles Aimed at Protesters at G8 Summit?
E Mail From a Listener | June 2 2004
My family and I went over to Jekyll Island, GA, for our annual Memorial Day "vacation." Allegedly because of the G8 Summit being held in Sea Island (one of the adjacent islands), we noticed two groups of military personnel and equipment (vehicles, RADAR, possible missiles in one of the vehicles (alleged by a couple of family members...they theorized that they were Patriot missiles), razor wire, a tent or two, and florescent orange barriers: one in a parking lot of a beach and the other at the pier of the island.
I did not get the chance to speak with any of the military personnel, but one of the merchant shop owners on the island is extremely upset because the military have perused around the shops without provocation. He also stated that his profits have sunk to an all-time low because this has scared his business away. He complained that "George" didn't take the families and children into consideration when deciding that the meeting should be held in Georgia.
My wife and I just returned back home in Florida (although a majority of the family will stay on the island until the end of this week), wishing I could have taken pictures of the island's occupation. Perhaps other listeners of yours (Alex) have had such an opportunity. I was extremely unhappy about this...and perhaps this will alter my pro-Bush parents-in-law's outlook with our current president.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend. This occurrence put a dark cloud over
