Anarchist People of Color Regional Gathering
Oakland, CA. -- April 16-18, 2004 – In October 2003, the first ever Anarchist People of Color (APOC) conference happened in Detroit. Building on the success of the Detroit conference, regional APOC conferences are springing up all over the country. Come be part of the first ever Bay Area APOC Conference to be held at Barrows Hall in UC Berkeley.
Ideally, we'd like to make more people of color feel like they're welcome and an important part of our own movement. So many times, many people of color speak of feeling alienated by a white subculture that has no relation to their own communities. But there is a place in the movement for people of color, and we hope to build a stronger tendency in which people of color are welcome and active.
The Gathering will kick off at 7pm Friday, April 16th, with a potluck dinner and check-in at Long Haul Infoshop (3124 Shattuck, Berkeley). The excitement continues the following two days at Barrows Hall in UC Berkeley with workshops, panels, and forums on issues that affect communities of color as well as anarchist approaches to community organizing and social justice issues.
This event is open to all people of color.
