Freepers planning to infilitrate protest and battle protesters!

There's a difference between those who want to march and those who want to disrupt the march with counter-protest. Provocateurs cause most of the problems at marches!

Effective non-violent action when confronted by protestors such as freepers who want to incite to violence--surround as a large group and march them out of the march! I saw this effectively executed in LA in 2000. Some homophobe so-called Christian organization was interfering in speeches and planning. No amount of talk would get them to leave.

A large group of activists surrounded them and began to march them out of the venue, chanting:

Racist, sexist, anti-gay.
Hateful liars go away.

they won't be able to muster more than a handful of people. they always talk big, but then get tiny results.

Some freepers actually ran some of us over with a truck during an ANSWER march, and then got away. There are some pictures of this in the archive of this site. None of us have ever assaulted them. For example, do you see any marks or signs of assault on these ones in this picture?

Just to set the record straight, counterprotesters do NOT have a right to march in permitted demos.

That is a settled legal matter on the federal, state and local levels.

Counterprotesters shall be evicted by the police from any permitted demonstration so as to not neutralize the Constitutionally-protected speech a group wishes to express.

If you have an affinity group, gather near one or more FReepers.

One or more persons is the designated "victim."

Two or more persons are the designated "witnesses."

One or more persons locates a police officer.

All decide on the "assault" that the FReeper(s) are to commit upon the victim(s), and witnesses agree on what they shall witness.

Photograph the designated criminal FReeper(s) and all nearby FReepers.

At least one member of the affinity group locates a police officer, describes the crime committed by the FReeper(s), and brings the officer over to the designated crime scene to take a report and make an arrest.

You all know how Sherman Austin got imprisoned. He didn't even print material about bombmaking himself, but owned a website that a third party put links to a website that the son of a republican leader had made that including bombmaking writings.

However, if you scan through the free republic website, there are countless threads where they are discussing in detail how they plan to kill liberals, and trade tips on what sorts of improvements they could make to their weapons to achieve this goal. Then, there have been people actually carrying out this activity, deliberately driving into crowds at ANSWER marches and then driving away.

i have mixed feelings about this. ok they have the right to march. but i still dont think that they should be allowed to march. they are putting themselves in a vunerable situation by marching along with passionate people. feelings get crazy, theres alot of tension because of police presence. its a scary situation.

so i say.

bring spray paint. if a freeper unveils a sign, banner, etc. get behind em, and spray paint a swaztika on their backs, they might not even notice, and if they do, just take off. dont confront any of them. they arent necessarily confronting you. violence is not the answer, but vandalism just might be. they will be marked all day.

The march is planned and funded by a private organization with permits issued by the city. For legal purposes, it is in fact a parade. The freepers absolutely do NOT have the right to join the march as a "counter" march anymore than you have the right to just show up with your own float and enter the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Ironically, one legal precedent for this was set in New York about ten years ago when a gay rights group sued to be allowed to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade. They claimed it was their First Amendment right to express an opinion that ran counter to that of the right-wing Catholic organizers of the parade. The gay-rights group lost and were barred from marching. It was determined that the First Amendment right of the St. Pat's Parade organizers was diminished by the forced inclusion of the gay-rights group, and since the organizers had the permit for that day it was their rights that needed protecting first.

The Freepers are perfectly free to plan and get permits for their own parade (not that they could get more than a couple dozen people to show up) and then they could say anything they want, and carry any kind of sign they want.

But Saturday is not that day. It is ours. Our right to gather as a group and express dissatisfaction with the current government (which is THE MOST ESSENTIAL right in our consitution) cannot be threatened by a few goons. And, in much more practical terms, the public safety is threatened when you have two angrily opposed groups of people within arms-length of each other.

I think people here are getting confused about the difference between counter-protestors and infiltrators. Counter-protestors are easy to spot -- they unfurl their own banners, carry pro-war signs, etc. It's the infiltrators that are scarier: they download the A.N.S.W.E.R. pdfs, print up their own legitimate anti-war signs, then mingle among the crowd indistinguishable from anyone else. Except they start acting like assholes, becoming aggressive, and so forth. Screaming, shoving, causing problems, making the rest of us look bad. Their goal is to disrupt the rally through causing hysteria and stirring up paranoia. This is a tactic that dates back to the anarchists in the 1880s; the right-wingers have wised up and are using anarchist techniques against us. They have done this successfully in the past couple years and whole rallies have degenerated into chaos and looting, with resultant bad press. Let's not let them get away with this again. Be aware of who is around you. If they seem like they're itchin' to cause trouble for no purpose, do what you can to isolate them and get them out of the crowd.

I agree with you about infilitrators, but on the subject of "counter-protesters", they are allowed to protest our protest, but are NOT allowed to join our march (for all the reasons stated in my previous post)

Traditionally the dozen or so counter protesters that show up are cordoned off in a safe area to the side (still within view, as is their right) and seperated from the crowd by police.

These guys that we're talking about are planning to actually join the march and then unfurl their swastika banners, shout hate slogans, etc. That is not permitted.

The Bill of rights actually serves to describe the relationship of citizens to the government, and to list some rights that people have from the government. The first amendment does not describe a legal relationship between citizens. There are other laws on the books that make illegal slander, libel, or assault on another person to make them be quiet. However, it is not illegal for someone to tell someone else to shut up. In fact, if a person with an evangelical religion, or petition to sign, or political speech to make came to your door and started talking, you could tell them to leave your property. If you ran a newspaper and they submitted their stuff, you wouldn't be censoring them by not printing it.
