Gavin Newsom is Right Wing Evil

What Gavin is doing by forcing the California Supreme court to take a stand on same self marriages is great. Ultimately I he is doing this to solidify his support among the moderate left and make it much easier to govern and get re-elected. Taking a stand on something that an overwhelming majority of SF voters (Republican and Democrat) agree on doesn't say a lot about Gavin in the short-term. But, it does in the longer term since it isn't a clearcut gain for him if he really is aiming for higher office (and an electorate that may not be as solidly for same-sex marriage). No other mayor in the countrry has been willing to do what Gavin has done. Hopefully other will take Gavin's lead. One should expect as much from more liberal cities than SF such as Santa Cruz and Berkeley.

If Gavin really did just use attacks on the homeles to get elected, one would hope he will now start being more humane and treating everyone as human. One shouldnt forgive him for scapegoating a minority community, but since he needs some progressive support to get re-elected, perhaps that can be used to force him to do more things like this. Most politicians say what voters want to hear to get elected and have no moral backbone of their own. If Gavin can be made to do at least a few good things (and prevented from doing too many bad things) as mayor, we shouldnt fault him for that. Gavin may use his new found surge in suppport to attack renters and those with low incomes but if we fight him on the issues rather than assuming everything he does is evil we should be able to win there too. Gavin should be treated like any other politician who wants to get re-elected and needs the support of voters as well as the business community to pay for his campaign.

Fascist Democrat election fraud "mayor" Gavin Newsom does not give a damn about the gay liberation movement and neither does his stinking, rotten Democrat-Republican Party. They are trying to preserve their capitalist parties and in San Francisco, the con game is to claim to be for gay rights. This was Willie Brown's old con game. He introduced the anti-sodomy law in the Legislature every year until the gay movement, which was part of the peace movement to stop the Vietnam War of 1964-1975, finally became strong enough in California that by 1975, enough legislators voted in California to overturn the sodomy law, thus legalizing homosexuality, and Willie Brown got the credit. Meanwhile, Brown was ALWAYS a leading organized crime, gambling, pro-tobacco, pro-real estate, anti-rent control, anit-tenant fascist thug which is why Kathleen Cleaver of the Black Panther Party, ran on the Peace & Freedom Party ticket in 1968 against Brown for the Assembly.

This is the whole Democratic Party's con game, to play to the Left to get elected and thwart the advance of any progressive struggle and once elected, carry out the same capitalist, anti-labor agenda as the Republicans' agenda. In times of crisis, as now, when the Democrats are desperate for votes to keep their con game going, they make a gesture toward supporting a progressive struggle, which is all gay marriage is.

Marriage is simply a property arrangement, a legal contract, which benefits the middle class, which explains why most of the people we have seen and heard from are white middle class people getting married. In this backward society, various benefits are greater if one is married. In Europe, where labor is more advanced, health care is guaranteed regardless of marital status or employment, and the same is true of many other benefits. On the other hand, the stresses placed on marriage are so great that only the middle class and the rich can benefit from marriage and endure the stresses.

Gay people should certainly have the civil right to marry and the good sense not to. The institution of marriage is reactionary in this society.

As to the history of gay marriage, we are witnessing the same pattern as with women's suffrage. Where labor is strongest, gay marriage now exists, as in certain European countries, and now in San Francisco as opposed to Los Angeles for example, where labor is weaker. It took the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 to win women's suffrage in Russia, guaranteed by that workers' revolution, and with that example, the capitalist class of the US and Britain, among others, were forced to accept women's suffrage in the US in 1920 and Britain in 1928. It took women's participation in the anti-fascist resistance in WW2 for women to win the right to vote in Italy in 1944 and France in 1945. It is always mass movements of the workingclass that make possible middle class demands, such as the right to vote and gay marriage. It was the black workingclass participation in the civil rights movement of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s that made possible the right to vote for blacks in the segregated South and the advance of the black middle class.

As to this desperate ploy on the part of Newsom to win votes for the Democrats, it cannot work. The presidential race is a referendum on the economy and the Democrats have nothing to offer the workingclass, so they cannot win. The Democrats are less concerned with winning than they are with stopping the Reds and Greens and preserving capitalism. It is capitalism and in particular, the profit motive, that is the problem.

Do not be fooled by this con game. Do not vote for any Democrat or Republican at any level of government. Yes, of course, support gay marriage, but that is not enough. You must vote Red or Green, and vote Yes on 56, No on the other state propositions, and on the San Francisco ballot, No on Measure 2, No Props G and J and Yes on all the rest.
