Many Vallejo neighborhoods would be most significantly impacted by the energy project on Mare Island. Much of the plant is proposed to be built on the area of Mare Island designated for a regional park. The scale of the 1500 megawatt power plant would certainly be one of the largest in California and will likely affect residents in a broader region in some way. Because of the extra security measures imposed by the Coast Guard for inland waterway transport of LNG in highly populated areas, the decision about whether to approve this facility at this location is a regional one affecting all marine transportation activities and communities from the Golden Gate north.
