Day Laborers March Against Police Harassment

Date:
Thursday, May 23, 2002
Time:
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
SF Day Labor Program
Location Details:
Meet at 26th & S. Van Ness Sts. March to Mission Police Station.

Support Thursday's March by Local Day Laborers! To oppose continued police harassment, including extensive ticketing and threats, Mission district Day Laborers will march to the Mission Police Station on May 23rd. As the city fails to address the workers' needs- in particular, the provision of public toilets, police have escalated a campaign to deny the laborers of their basic right to work. Officers continue to target the men as they enter employers vehicles, ticketing them for stepping off of the curb. The public is invited to join in a demonstration against the authorities efforts to further marginalize this valuable workforce. When: Meet at 11:30am, Thursday, May 23 Where: 26th & South Van Ness Sts, Mission District, SF (marching to Mission Police Station) For further information about this action or the SF Day Labor Program (including hiring available workers), call (415)252-5375.
