QUIT! Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism presents
REPORT FROM BETHLEHEM UNDER SIEGE
by Kate Raphael, Jewish lesbian anti-racist activist
member of recent International Solidarity Movement mission to Palestine
Kate Raphael, a political activist and writer in the Bay Area's LGBT and
Jewish communities, recently traveled to Palestine to participate in the
International Solidarity Movement campaign of nonviolent resistance to the
brutal Israeli occupation. When Israel invaded Bethlehem and other
Palestinian cities, Kate joined a group staying in Aida refugee camp, where
they hoped to deter Israeli occupation forces from raiding the camp. Kate
also met with Palestinian and Jewish activists inside Israel, including
members of the queer direct action group Black Laundry. She will show
slides and report on the siege of Bethlehem and Jenin and Palestinian,
Israeli and international movements to end the occupation. She will also
report on a meeting with the new coordinator of the first outreach program
for Palestinian queers in the Middle East.
