The San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women (SFCOSW) is holding
a community meeting to discuss the results of the City Attorney's investigation into the domestic violence homicide of Claire Joyce Tempongko in October, 2000. The meeting will take place on Monday, April 22 from 2-4 p.m. at 25 Van Ness Avenue, Room 70, Lower Level, San Francisco, CA. You can contact the Department office at 415-252-2570 for more information.
We urge people to come to this community meeting and speak out about the police and district attorney misconduct that led to Joyce's death, and the continued arrogance and neglect with which both district attorney
and police officials continue to treat domestic violence.
We have also become very concerned about the role of the SFCOSW in this investigation. They held a press conference with Mayor Willie Brown to release the report and then DID NOT RELEASE THE REPORT! When we obtained the report from the City Attorney's office that afternoon, we saw why:
The report is very critical of the police and DA Terrence Hallinan.
It is important that women attend this community meeting to demand that
SFCOSW take a responsible role in holding law enforcement accountable
for their role in Temongko's murder.
