On April 19, 2002, nine San Francisco State University students will be hosting a fundraising event at Kelly's Mission Rock! The >event will be featuring the versitile cumbia/hiphop/funk band, The People. Both Kelly's, and The People are donating their services and talent. Proceeds from the cover charge will be donated to community-based, non-profit agencies in Mexico that the students will be meeting with during their study tour. This is the second year that SFSU's Raza Studies Department sends students to Mexico to learn first hand about political and social reform that is taking place in that country. The first trip left on January 4th, 2001. "It was a special time to be in Mexico due to the
'newness' of the political situation" Professor Carrillo says. On May 27, 2002, Professor Carrillo will again be traveling to Mexico with nine new students from her current US-Mexico Connection class. Help us keep the lines of transnational communication open with activists and organizers from Mexico by coming to Kelly's Mission Rock on April 19,2002.
