DESTINY ARTS CENTER Reaching For Peace

Oakland Ca - More than one hundred fifty families will gather in Oakland on Friday December 7, 2001 to honor the values of violence prevention through the movement arts. “This year’s recital is particularly meaningful in light of the events that occurred on September 11th. In a time when the world is overwhelmed by conflict, our youth are bringing forward a powerful reminder that each individual has the power to work for peace” remarked MacArthur H. Flournoy, executive director. Under the direction of Master Marital Arts Instructor Sifu Anthony Daniels and Performing Arts Director Sarah Crowell, the youth will perform more than fifteen original works integrating hip hop, modern and jazz dance, theater, marital arts and the spoken word into a stirring performance. World renowned muralist Juana Alicia will unveil an original mural contributed to Destiny Arts Center, entitled “All Life is Inter-related” depicting the legacy of peace left by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and youth who participate in violence prevention program at Destiny Art Center. Destiny Arts Center is a 501 (c) (3) non profit youth development organization dedicated to building strong youth who are peaceful, creative, and respectful leaders. Serving youth since 1988, the North Oakland based center has served more than six thousand young people since its inception.
