Press Release/ For Immediate Release November 16, 2001
LaborTech 2001 Will Launch
24-Hr Labor Radio Channel
LaborTech 2001 will be celebrating its 11th anniversary this year at the University of San Francisco, December 7-9. LaborTech conferences focus on two things -- the use of new communication technologies by the labor movement to get its message out and build local, regional and international networks; and the effects of new technologies on workers. LaborTech brings together leading videographers, web activists, academics, and media/culture workers from around the world, including Japan, Korea, England, Germany, Pakistan, Mexico, and Canada.
This year's conference will include the launch of Workers Information News Service (WINS), the world's first 24-hour labor radio channel. This labor radio channel will provide a critical opportunity for trade unionists and the labor movement to receive uncensored news and information via the web and community radio.
Panels and hands-on workshops will include: Censorship, Democracy, and the War-Time Media Blockade; How to Stream Audio and Video on the Web; How to Set Up a Community-Access Labor Television Show; and Independent Media Centers and Labor.
LaborTech is sponsored by the San Francisco Labor Council, ILWU, California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, Union Producers and Programmers Network (UPPNET), Labornet, University of San Francisco Media Studies Department, and many additional organizations.
