Cine Documental, "The Pinochet Case" Directed by Patricio Guzman (2001) Augusto Pinochet, the general who overthrew President Salvador Allende of Chile in 1973, was the first dictator in Latin America, or the world, to be humbled by the international justice system since the Nuremberg trials. This film investigates the legal origins of the case in Spain, where it began two years before Pinochet's arrest in England. 109 minutes. English and Spanish with English subtitles. Sylvia Guendelman will introduce the film and give a brief talk outlining the historical context in which it takes place. Dr. Guendelman is professor and Chair of the Maternal and Child Health Program in the Division of Health Policy and Management at the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley.
