The San Francisco Lyric Chorus presents a preview performance of arias and choruses from SF composer Kirke Mechem's newly completed operas 'John Brown' and 'The Newport Rivals,' some performed for the first time. 'John Brown' is the moving story of the famous abolitionist, and 'The Newport Rivals' is a modern version of 18th century English playwright Richard Sheridan's comedy, 'The Rivals.' Music Director Robert Gurney conducts the Chorus with soloists Saundra DeAthos, soprano, Wendy Hillhouse, mezzo, Harold Meers, tenor, Todd Donovan, baritone, Joseph Wright, bass, and Ava Soifer, pianist. Composer Kirke Mechem will introduce his operas. Tickets are $20; $17 seniors/advanced sale. Free for students 5-18 with ID. Please no children under 5.
