EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION! San Francisco Rape Crisis Center under attack for exploring connections between oppression and sexual violence SF Women Against Rape (SFWAR) needs your presence and support at a public meeting before the Commission on the Status of Women, TOMORROW, Wednesday, 7/23 at 5 pm at San Francisco City Hall (Room 408). Gather outside the City Hall for a press conference at 4 pm. SFWAR stands against projects anywhere in the world, including the US, South Africa, and Palestine, that remove indigenous people from their land and construct the settlers as the authentic people of the land. As a result of this stance, inflammatory articles misrepresenting SFWAR have been published (see www.jewishsf.com). SFWAR has also received numerous hate mail and death threats. Additionally, funding that allows SFWAR to carry out its critical services to the SF community is being threatened. We need you to: * Gather in front of the City Hall at 4 pm. * Wear stickers to show your support of SFWAR (available tomorrow). * If media approach you, please direct them to one of the appointed SFWAR spokespersons. SFWAR is a women of color led rape crisis center that has assisted thousands of survivors of sexual violence through direct services and rape prevention education since its inception in 1973. SFWAR sees sexual assault as both a symptom and a tool of other oppressions, and is committed to work against all forms of oppression as part of the process of ending sexual assault. SFWAR is urging its supporters and the community at large to protect services for sexual assault survivors and the right to facilitate discussions that explore the connections between oppressions and sexual violence.
