Joel Kovel, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and Professor of Social Studies at Bard College, Has been active in peace, social justice and ecological movements since the 1960s.  He is the author of a number of books.  Kovel's most recent book is: The Enemy of Nature: the End of Capitalism or the End of the World (Zed 2002).  This book explores the harsh conclusion that the world capitalist system is leading to ecological catastrophe as well as perpetual war and the disintegration of democratic society.  The work also develops a radical alternative, eco-socialism, through a synthesis of Marxism, eco-feminism, and the philosophy of nature.
