CORPORATIONS ARE PERSONS?
New College Cultural Center, 766 Valencia Street., San Francisco
Free Public Workshop
Live Webcast: To listen go to: http://newmedia.newcollege.edu:8000
What is corporate personhood? How has it allowed corporations to amass power and wealth? How did it become law? Why is it a threat to democracy? Learn what we're doing about it in San Francisco!
As legal persons, corporations have more rights than human beings. Corporations: (1) use free speech to make gigantic political contributions, (2) use the 4th Amendment to prevent random inspections intended to prevent labor abuse and pollution, and (3) leverage anti-discrimination laws to force Big Box Stores into small communities. And more.
Join these presenters for an evening of education, enlightenment and empowerment:
Jan Edwards (a California leader of the WILPF campaign to Abolish Corporate Personhood);
David Cobb (General Counsel for the Green Party of the United States);
Bill Meyers (author of "Santa Clara Blues" & co-author of the Point Arena Resolution on Corporate Personhood);
Marc Kasky (citizen activist and plaintiff in Nike vs. Kasky, a lawsuit currently pending in the US Supreme Court).
Sponsors: the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the San Francisco Green Party, and New College of California. For more information call 866/280-1409 x600.
