Date:
Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Time:
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Event Type:
Conference
Organizer/Author:
Misato Sato
Location Details:
Chinatown Library 1135 Powell St. (near Jackson)

In this event, we will discuss what we, as individuals and organizations, can do to bring about world peace. Currently, many people are involved in this issue through the antiwar movement. We believe that peace is not just the opposite of war. We would like to talk about peace in a more comprehensive way, as an everyday issue. Our goal in this event is to discuss and explore new ways to create world peace. Speakers Fusako de Angelis: Peace and environmental activist, writer. After 1991 Gulf War, organized Berkeley KAI, Bay Area Japanese group against war. In 1992, co-founded INOCHI, California nonprofit organization to coordinate its projects, Plutonium Free Future, Rokkasho Video Project and Earth Gathering. Since 9/11, focused all energy to oppose war, publishing an e-mail magazine "SHAKE! Bay Area Tsushin" to report on the Bay Area's peace movement and citizen's voices for Japan. Steve Freedkin: Steve presently serves as a Vice Chairperson of the Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission, an appointed government advisory body, on whose behalf he has appeared on national television. He previously served as Operations and Finance Director for an international policy development thinktank dealing with peace and environment issues.
