A Critical Look: Black Liberation from Malcolm X to the Black Panthers Panelists include: • Yuri Kochiyama, long-time social activist and member of the Organization of Afro-American Unity • Huseyn Sayfuddin,writer poet and scholar of the post-Malcolm X Black Liberation Movement • Gerald Smith, former Black Panther, member of the Communist Workers Organization This forum will discuss the critical link between Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party and the move away from narrow nationalism to internationalism in the Black Liberation movement. It will highlight the moment when Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam, a time when he became broad-minded and itnernational in his approach, paving the way for the Black Panthers to see the need for an international revolutionary perspective and the need to change the economic basis of society to liberate humanity.
