'Mozilla' was Netscape Communication's nickname for its web browser, 'Netscape Navigator.' Today, it's the name of an open source public collaboration aimed at making improvements to Navigator, which was released as Open Source in 1998. This public collaboration was launched and is still substantially supported by Netscape (now owned by AOL); however, the Mozilla project is independent. Netscape uses its code as the basis of their newer versions of Navigator. Anyone else can use it as well. (Projects like Galeon, Phoenix, and Aphrodite are based on Mozilla's robust HTML rendering engine.)
Asa Dotzler is the mozilla.org project and release manager. He works to build community and establish policy and procedure. He will be talking about the process, tools and community aspects of the project, and how others can get involved.
