Join us for the next installment in the True Costs of Petroleum Series, featuring spoken word, a slideshow, and an inspiring report-back on resistance to petroleum pollution and corporate globalization in the Philippines. Francesca Francia from Global Community Monitor will report back on her recent trip to the community of Pandacan, Manila, which is the potential site of the world's biggest petrochemical disaster. The urban poor, as well as teachers, students, firefighters, and medical technicians are demanding that a hazardous oil depot be relocated away from Pandacan's 80,000 residents, schools, historical sites, and the famous Pasig river. These citizens have begun monitoring their health and environment using a simple yet effective air-sampling bucket method and their own tenacity. Join the Ecology Center, Global Community Monitor, Filipino/Americans Coalition for Environmental Solutions (FACES) and spoken-word activist Aimee Suzara as we celebrate this case study of resistance to the true costs of petroleum!
Cost: This is a benefit for the Pandacan Bucket Brigade. The cost is $5 -10 sliding scale, but no one will be turned away.
Info: 510-548-2220 x233.
