As the globalization of corporate capitalism proceeds under the gun of U.S. military might, resistance and movement for change become imperative. At times, the ability to envision this happening becomes difficult, thus the importance of this film festival which in powerful, visual ways presents a broad, though not comprehensive, sweep of activist history to inspire and support our activism hasta la victoria siempre.
Saturday November 30 - Eight films on two screens
10 am - Winstanley (the ‘diggers’ struggle to reclaim the commons in 1649)
12:30 pm - Freedom on My Mind (civil rights)
12:30 pm - Harlem County (labor)
3 pm - Rebels with a Cause: The History of SDS (student activism)
3 pm - Witness to the Future (environmental activism)
5:30 pm - After Stonewall (queer activism)
5:30 pm - Zapatista (indigenous revolt)
8 pm - This is what Democracy Looks Like (Seattle, the WTO and Global Justice movement, 1999).
Sunday, December 1 - Special showing of La Commune
1 - 6 pm - A special screening of the amazing six hour long Peter Watkins film – La Commune – the name given to the French revolutionary government established by the people of Paris in 1871.
