Sproul Plaza - Barak's speech at Zellerbach Hall
PROTEST FORMER ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER EHUD BARAK'S SPEECH ON PEACEMAKING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19th, 5:00 PM, Lower Sproul on UC Berkeley campus and at 6:30 PM, Zellerbach Hall on UC Berkeley campus
Ehud Barak, Israel's most decorated military officer, is coming to UC Berkeley campus. His speech is entitled "Peacemaking in the Middle East". In reality, Barak is anything but a man of peace. Not only has he overseen military aggression against the Palestinians, but Ehud Barak is actually coming to campus as part of a nationwide tour to promote the US war with Iraq. It is crucial that Barak's visit not enjoy the silence of communities in the US that are outraged by the current developments in Occupied Palestine.
Several University professors will make presentations on the nature of Barak's policies in Sproul Plaza at 5:00 PM. Please come with signs, banners, and friends to show your opposition to Barak's policies and help build the antiwar movement in this country. This segment is sponsored by Berkeley Stop the War Coalition.
A gathering of peaceful people dressed in black, holding candles, silently bearing witness to the sufferings of Palestinians. While some may choose to hold signs in order to communicate information to entering guests, the underlying strategy would be to maintain our silence throughout the vigil. This segment is sponsored by Bay Area Women in Black.
