THE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT Support Group in Northern California invites you to hear Israeli activist and organizer DOROTHY NOAR on “Merkavas to Plowshares: transforming Israeli militarism” Dorothy Noar is an active member of New Profile, a pluralistic feminist organization of men and women that aims to transform Israeli society from militaristic to civilized. One of the main activities of New Profile is to support all those who refuse military service. In addition, she participates in Ta’ayush Arab-Jewish partnership, the Women’s Coalition for a Just Peace, Gush Shalom, Courage to Refuse, and other groups. She has met with Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat and Palestinian educators. She was in the Jenin refugee camp after the first Israeli incursion. Most recently, she has participated in helping Palestinians harvest their olives in defiance of curfew. She is currently researching the $3 ½ billion yearly U.S. arms package to Israel, a study of Israelis and Palestinians killed since October 2000, and a correlation of Israel’s assassinations of Palestinians and Palestinian attacks on Israelis. ALSO “No One Need Cry” A documentary film about the Jenin refugee camp, as told by the victims within days after the massacre The ISM is a nonviolent movement of Palestinian/Israeli and International activists joining together in Palestine to confront the Israeli military occupation and to raise awareness of the Palestinian struggle for freedom.
