New Pro-Palestinian Group Forming In East Bay

Date:
Wednesday, October 23, 2002
Time:
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Event Type:
Meeting
Organizer/Author:
Wendy Campbell
Location Details:
Rockrige Library, in Oakland, at 5366 College Ave, 2nd Floor, Ph: 510-597-5017.

A new Pro-Palestinian group is forming called Americans for Justice and Peace in Palestine-Israel. This will provide an opportunity for Pro-Palestinian activists to network, brainstorm, share info and ideas and take organized actions for the goal of justice for the Palestinians. We believe that the one-state solution is the best solution for peace and justice, whereby Israel is transformed into a completely secular, democratic country, with equal rights for all, and a new flag without religious symbols on it. We believe that all 5 million Palestinians must be allowed to return to their ancestral homeland in Palestine-Israel, which is their right according to UN Resolutions, international law and world opinion. As Americans, we have a special responsibility to correct the injustices Palestinians are suffering as the direct result of the financial aid and blind support our morally corrupt government gives to Israel, an anti-democratic, apartheid, racist state. One area of action we will focus on is dissemination of educational information on the issue to the public. We will become the media. Literature will be distributed. Please feel free to bring your own if you have some. After the initial introductions, and discussion of ideas, etc., we will watch a video called "Behind the Hatred: The Root of the Conflict" by BBC, NY Times TV and NBC. The video "Truth: Exposing Israeli Apartheid" by local film-maker Wendy Campbell will be available to purchase.
