SF Day Labor Program Meeting with Planning Commission

Date:
Thursday, October 17, 2002
Time:
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Event Type:
Meeting
Organizer/Author:
Renne Saucedo
Location Details:
City Hall, Rm 400

DEAR FRIENDS AND ALLIES OF SAN FRANCISCO DAY LABORERS: WE HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED TO THE FINAL, AND MOST IMPORTANT, STEP IN OBTAINING THE BUILDING ON CESAR CHAVEZ STREET FOR THE SF DAY LABOR PROGRAM : THE PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING!! As you know, San Francisco day laborers and the SF Day Labor Program have struggled for many years to move out of its portable trailers and into a building on Cesar Chavez St. Despite much opposition by a small group of loud "nimby" neighbors, and the Mayor's Office, we finally signed a lease for 3358 Cesar Chavez St. (between Mission and So. VanNess). The Planning Commission has finally given us a hearing date in order to obtain the necessary permits to start construction and move in. Our opponents will attend this hearing in full force (For those of you who have participated in other day laborer community hearings, you know that this one will be just as contentious, racially charged and offensive). WE NEED YOU TO COME TO THE HEARING AND SUPPORT THE DAY LABOR PROGRAM'S MOVE TO CESAR CHAVEZ STREET!!! WHEN: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, HEARING STARTS AT 1:30, TESTIMONY WILL PROBABLY BEGIN NO EARLIER THAN 2:30. WHERE: SF CITY HALL, ROOM 400 Please RSVP to Renee Saucedo by email or by calling (415) 553-3404 so we know how many supporters will be present and how many of you wish to testify.
