On October 10 from 5-7pm, Cotati will be joining people around the world to celebrate "Daniel Pearl Music Day" in Cotati's La Plaza Park at the corner of Old Redwood Highway and West Sierra. This event is free to the public and is the only North Bay celebration currently scheduled. Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who lost his life to terrorists in Pakistan, was not only a journalist but also an avid musician who carried his mission of dialogue through words and music in all his travels. In every city he lived, he joined a band, orchestra or chamber group and made new friends through his passion for music, friendship and humanity. As a tribute to his life and as a way to unite around his spirit, the Daniel Pearl Foundation (www.danielpearl.org) has decided to celebrate what would have been Pearl's 39th birthday, Oct. 10, as a day of music-making worldwide. at our Thursday Farmer's Market, held in La Plaza Park, Sonoma's preeminent bluegrass band, "The Skiffle Symphony" will play from 5-6:30 featuring old time music and klezmer tunes. (Pearl was an accomplished classical violinist, fiddler and bluegrass mandolin player). From 4:30- 7 pm an informational table about the Daniel Pearl Foundation will feature a Music Day Book for signing by all who choose to offer their support and messages to the Pearl family.
